Maryann Riker: Book Artist, Perspectives Partner

Maryann Riker is an artist and collaborator who has had her book art, assemblages, and shrines in galleries and art shows all over the Lehigh Valley. She is also a partnering artist in the Perspectives: Art On Environment project at the Nurture Nature Center, organized and curated by art Director Keri Maxfield. (Please see the previous post for information about the project)

This year, she had the ambitious plan to create a thirty foot installation of an accordion style book, featuring poetry and text. The pages have a floating simplicity, with natural cyanotype impressions with text assembled on their edges in a line:

If you are in the area or available to attend the Open Mic night, make sure that you stop by the lower level to see the installations, like this book.

Maryann has created unique books out of interesting materials for a long time, and has taught workshops on making books including one with pulp and collected natural objects embedded in paper as part of Perspectives 3. If you aren’t familiar, check out her Facebook page and info on Easton’s ACE site.
